It's not fun to talk about, but it's important to know. An article published by Alaska Public Media discusses the story of a family who lost their dog to a Conibear trap located near a trailhead parking lot this past February. Read more about Alaska Wildlife Alliance’s (AWA’s) efforts to understand this issue and provide solutions.

Incidents of people and pets having run-ins with traps on or along trails and other heavily-used outdoor access points is a reoccurring issue that we want to learn more about. We at AWA are working to gather more public information about traps along Alaskan trails. We have created a "Map the Trap" citizen science project to gather community data about traps and their locations and their overlap with adults, children, and pets.

Your voice matters! Have you seen a trap while out recreating? Report it and learn more about our Map the Trap project at at www.akwildlife.org/safetrails.
